Will & Company has professional designation in arts education and all workshops and long-term residencies are tied to the California State Standards. Noted for artistic excellence, we have established ourselves as an exceptional arts organization, with support from the Cultural Affairs Department of Los Angeles, the California Arts Council, and the LA County Arts Commission. We are booked through such esteemed arts providers as the LA Music Center’s Education Division and the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Artsteach.

THEATRE RESIDENCY
- PLAN AND COMPONENTS
- Sequential, comprehensive, standards-based theatre program tied to the classic work of literature of your choice – Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, (Elizabethan Times), Homer’s The Odyssey, (Greek Mythology), or Cervantes’ The Adventures of Don Quixote (The Golden Age of Spain). Included in the package are professional development for staff, a seven-session residency for students in five classrooms, and a double assembly for the entire student body of your school.
- STUDENT INSTRUCTIONAL
- 5 classrooms visits(Grades 3 and up) with a series of seven sequential theatre workshops. Students will learn key theatre terms and will use collaboration, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, study skills, and self-management to create a series of staged pictures using dialogue from the classic play for a final project in each class
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS
- School staff members will attend an engaging and innovative workshop that uses theatre games and activities to show how drama can be used across subjects to engage students. The main activities are creating staged pictures based on any book the students are reading and using pictures to create speeches and monologues.
- PERFORMANCE / EXHIBITION / EVENTS
- A double assembly of our 45 minute performance of the classic play of your choice – Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cervantes’ Don Quixote, or Homer’s The Odyssey. In addition to the professional ensemble of actors, 10 students from your school will perform supporting roles in the play. A question and answer session with the audience follows. Assembly is appropriate for grades K-12.
- COLLABORATIVE PLANNING TIME
- Our staff will meet with your administrative staff and teachers who will be involved in the long-term residencies from each school to discuss your arts action plan and to develop a schedule for programming at the school site. Programming is available throughout the school year.
- RESOURCES
- Comprehensive study guides are provided for the assembly. . Guides include historical background on the playwright and time period, a plot synopsis of the Will & Company adaptation, activities and theatre games, and resources for further information. Lesson plans used in the residency program will also be given to the participating staff members and include strategies for further implementation in the classroom.
