LATINOS SHAPING A NATION

A series of Two Person Shows depicting historical Americans who have made an impact on our society. Perfect to present during cultural awareness months. Each show is a 65 minute live presentation, re-enacted by two actors, highlighting the lives of important Americans who have shaped our country and are deserving of recognition for their achievements while empowering us with a pride of true American history.

The Characters of Latinos Shaping a Nation are:

Gustavo Garcia: the Texas lawyer, the first Latino to argue before the Supreme Court, who changed the law of America to ensure that a jury of peers is truly that.

Luisa Moreno: the only Latina to head a national union in America, who through her tireless activism, combined with other stalwart Latinas, established minimum wage in America, argued before Congress for ‘migrant’ rights and stopped the Zoot suit riots.

An ‘undocumented’ Marine Corporal: who talks of his pride of the countless Latinos who have served in this country’s armed forces, especially the 43 Latino recipients of the Medal of Honour, America’s highest award for gallantry.

Andrea Perez: the Latina who first led to the abolishment of the miscegenation laws in the United States when she sued for her right to marry an African American. This is the case that led to the Supreme Court striking down all miscegenation laws in the United States. This is the case that today is the precedent for the rights to gay marriage.

Roberto Clemente: the Puerto Rican ‘hotdog’ who had to overcome horrific racism to become a legend of baseball and who constantly toiled for the welfare of the world’s poor.

Sylvia Rivera: the New York ‘Rican’ who started the stonewall riot for gay rights; wrote the Gay Rights Act, and started homeless shelters for runaway gay teens.
